About the Conference:
NCBA CLUSA’s 2016 Consumer Cooperative Management Association (CCMA) Conference will be held June 9 – 11, 2016 in Amherst, Massachusetts at the University of Massachusetts. The conference is co-hosted by members of the Neighboring Food Co-op Association, with Franklin Community Co-op and River Valley Co-op as primary local hosts.

The theme of this year’s conference is “Disrupting the Future: Cooperative Food and the Next Generation”, with significant focus on how to challenge leadership in this sector to address diversity and inclusion through their cooperative businesses.

This conference will address the need for a radical shift in thinking for food cooperatives to differentiate themselves in an increasingly competitive natural foods marketplace. Food co-ops in particular continue to battle perceptions of elitism and the expectation of higher prices. Session topics will address how the sector can challenge those expectations by working to impact communities outside the traditional food co-op demographic and demonstrating diversity and inclusion through recruiting and hiring practices.

Why Should I Attend?
CCMA provides a unique opportunity for food co-op general managers, board members and staff to dialog, collaborate and plan together. The conference provides structure and shape to the cooperative philosophy, approach and business practice. CCMA also inspires and leads the national conversation on the continued success of the food co-op sector, with sessions focused on interpersonal communication, the animated exchange of ideas and tools for success in business activities.

This year’s conference offers 30 sessions within the following six tracks:

1) Inspirational Strategies for Outdistancing the Competition
2) Succession Planning and Leadership Development for the Entire Team
3) 2020 and Beyond: New Approaches to Cooperation
4) Participatory Governance for Success
5) Financing the Co-op Future
6) Social, Economic, and Racial Diversity

Dear CCMA Conference Attendees –

We are excited to welcome you all to Western Massachusetts for the 60th Annual CCMA Conference.

As we make final preparations this month, we wanted to remind everyone that registrations must be paid in full before the conference begins. You may certainly pay AT registration when picking up your packet; however, we will not be billing for registrations after the conference so if you have not paid, you will not be eligible to attend the conference.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any concerns or questions.

Thank you for supporting this year’s CCMA Conference – we will see you in Amherst!

Sincerely,

Pat, Sherry, Bryan and Liz – your CCMA 2016 Team

The closest airportto UMass is Bradley International Airport located in Windsor Locks, Connecticut (right outside of Hartford). This airport is approximately 45 miles south of the UMass campus. You may find more flight options to Logan International Airport in Boston, Massachusetts. Logan is approximately 90 miles east of the UMass campus, so please allow for extra travel time to UMass. Both airports feature car rental agencies and a variety of shuttle services, including Valley Transporter (413-253-1350) and  Seemo Shuttle (413-586-1120).

Traveling by Bus:
The Amherst area is serviced by Greyhound, Peter Pan Bus LinesMegabus and the Pioneer Valley Transit Authority (PVTA). Please be sure to carefully review bus schedules, bus stop locations, and campus maps prior to your arrival - not only do many bus services run on a reduced schedule in the summer, but both the area and the campus can be confusing to navigate if it is your first time here.

Traveling by Train
Amtrak provides passenger rail service to nearby Northampton, MA, located a 20 minute drive from the UMass campus, and Springfield, MA, located a 30 minute drive from the UMass campus. For schedule information and to purchase tickets, visit Amtrak's website and select "Northampton, MA (NHT)" or "Springfield, MA (SPG)" as your arrival destination.
