Participants can attend the CANDELS Meeting October 22 - 24 (with an opening reception on October 21), the TolTEC Workshop October 25 - 26, or both.
The deadline to register is August 31.
CANDELS MEETING:
"The Universe by the Light of CANDELS: Past and Future", October 22-24
CANDELS has yielded one of the most extensive public Legacy/Treasury data set for galaxy evolution studies to date, from imaging to spectroscopy and from
X-ray to radio through UV/Optical, NIR, MIR and FIR. The conference will summarize the key accomplishments and the major results obtained as part of the CANDELS projects, both by members of the collaboration and by the community at large, as well as identify the most promising future lines of research, especially in light of the upcoming new facilities. In addition to presentations from the CANDELS team, we will have invited and contributed talks, posters and ample time for discussion.
CANDELS was funded by NASA through the Space Telescope Science Institute.
Confirmed invited speakers for the CANDELS meeting include: Peter Capak (IPAC/Caltech), Avishai Dekel (Hebrew University), David Elbaz (CEA Saclay), Sandra Faber (UCSC), Harry Ferguson (STScI), Steve Finkelstein (UT Austin), Susan Kassin (STScI), Laura Pentericci (INAF), Alvio Renzini (INAF), Linda Tacconi (MPE), Rachel Somerville (Flatiron Institute).
TOLTEC WORKSHOP
"The next generation extragalactic millimeter surveys:
A planning workshop for public legacy surveys with TolTEC/LMT", October 25-26.
TolTEC is a large-format (7000 detector) imaging polarimeter that will be mounted on the recently commissioned 50-meter Large Millimeter Telescope (LMT), a joint collaboration between UMass Amherst and Mexico. From 2019 to 2021 TolTEC and LMT will conduct two public extragalactic legacy surveys at 1.1, 1.4 and 2.1mm: an Ultra-Deep Survey of Star-forming Galaxies and a Large Scale Structure Survey. The data from these TolTEC legacy surveys will be made public and we are soliciting input from the community on the fields to cover and exact area/depth parameters for each extragalactic survey. At this workshop, we will discuss the science goals of these surveys, prioritize the ancillary data needed to complete this science and converge on the fields and survey strategy. The TolTEC workshop will be mostly discussion oriented with a couple of invited science talks to motivate our discussions. During the discussions, we encourage all participants to contribute ideas for the survey fields and parameters, important ancillary data products, simulations/modeling, etc. Once registration closes we will contact those of you who are interested in contributing to the discussions with information on how this will happen (e.g. could be showing a few slides or leading a discussion topic).
Confirmed invited speakers for the TolTEC workshop: Kristen Coppin (Univ. of Hertfordshire), James Dunlop (IfA Edinburgh), Chris Hayward (Flatiron Institute), Jack Sayers (Caltech), Nick Scoville (Caltech), Wei-Hao Wang (ASIAA).
More details on TolTEC can be found on our website: http://toltec.astro.umass.edu.
The TolTEC project is funded by the National Science Foundation through the MSIP program.
TolTEC workshop organizing committee: Itziar Aretxaga (INAOE), David Hughes (INAOE), Alexandra Pope (UMass), Grant Wilson (UMass), Min Yun (UMass).

Parking
Parking is available in the Campus Center Parking Garage. For GPS purposes, the garage is located at 1 Campus Center Way, Amherst, MA, 01003. Campus Center Way is off of Commonwealth Avenue, across the street from the Mullins Center. After turning onto Campus Center Way stay to the left to go up the hill. You will see the garage entrance on your right. Take a ticket at the entrance gate and park. We recommend attendees follow the "Hotel/Campus Center" signs down and park on Level 2. There is a flat accessible walkway into the Campus Center on Level 2. Alternatively, attendees can park on Level 3, 4, 5 or 6 and use the Northeast or Southeast Stairwells to access outdoor campus paths leading to the Campus Center.
New this year - the garage is now automated! After you park take your gate ticket inside with you. Once you arrive to the conference you will be provided with a parking coupon for the garage (one per day of attendance). As you leave each day, but before you get to your car, stop at one of the pay stations located on each floor of the garage. Enter your gate ticket and, when prompted, scan the QR code on the pass we provided. This will discount your parking to, at most, $6.50 per day. Submit payment (by card at any pay station, by card or cash on the 2nd floor pay station). Once you submit payment the machine will return your now validated gate ticket. You can then go to your car and exit the garage, entering your validated gate ticket into the kiosk at the garage exit to raise the gate.
Accessible Parking
Vehicles displaying a state-issued disabled placard or license plate may park in any marked Reserved Accessible Space, any regular unreserved space, or any parking meter at no charge. All vehicles, regardless of disabled placards or plates, must pay when parking in the Campus Center Parking Garage. We recommend looking at the Parking Services interactive Parking Map: click the blue "P" icon on the top right of the map and click off "Handicapped Parking" to locate accessible spaces around campus.
By Car
Attendees should park in the Campus Center Parking Garage, located at 1 Campus Center Way in Amherst, MA 01003. If you are being dropped off we still recommend using this location/address as your destination: there is a circle (Flint Circle) just past the garage entrance where guests can be dropped off.
