NAWEA/WindTech 2019 Conference

The NAWEA/WindTech 2019 Conference will take place at the University of Massachusetts Amherst on October 14 –16, 2019. This will be an opportunity for wind energy academics and researchers to discuss the Grand Vision for Wind Energy and its implications. Thought leaders from around the world will present on the pivotal role these technologies will play in the transition from a system based primarily on fossil fuels to one primarily supported by renewable energy. The conference will discuss the grand challenges in wind energy science needed for technological advancements as well as social science and policy aspects related to the transition to the renewable-dominated energy system of the future. This conference joins the longstanding North American Wind Energy Academy (NAWEA) Symposium and the International Conference on Future Technologies in Wind Energy (WindTech) and is developed in collaboration with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and the European Academy of Wind Energy.

The conference is dedicated to research and education, and will include technical sessions, panel discussions, a graduate student symposium, a poster session, engineering software workshops, business meetings, social events, and opportunities for interesting excursions. Registration includes breakfasts, coffee breaks and lunches for all 3 days, as well as the opening reception on Monday, October 10. There will be additional charges for the optional banquet on Tuesday evening and possible field trips on Thursday. The optional banquet will be held on Tuesday evening, October 15, from 6:30 – 8:30 PM at the Inn On Boltwood in Amherst, MA. The Inn is a little over one mile from the campus. Attendees may purchase a ticket during registration ($60.00/ticket). On Thursday the conference is exploring the possibility of arranging some field trips (Block Island Offshore Wind Farm, Wind Technology Testing Center, Marine Commerce Terminal): attendees can indicate interest in one or more of these possible field trips during registration.

Optional Events
During registration attendees may select to add a conference banquet ticket and/or field trip. The banquet and field trips are optional events and are not included in the cost of registration. Additional fees apply. Register early! 

CONFERENCE BANQUET - Tuesday, October 15
A banquet for the NAWEA Conference will be held on Tuesday evening, October 15th, from 6:30 - 8:30 PM. The banquet will feature live jazz music as well as local farm-to-table food and hors d'oeuvres at the historic Inn on Boltwood in Amherst. The banquet is optional with a cost of $60 for conference attendees and $40 for student attendees. There will be bus transportation provided to and from the banquet from the UMass Campus Center. Register now and specify any special dietary needs.

Cost $50 per person (MAX of 40 people)
Since opening in 2011, WTTC has run 35 distinct blade testing programs, as required as part of turbine certification to meet international design standards, entailing hundreds of individual blade tests.
     - Bus pick-Up Location: UMass Campus Center
     - Timing: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM (4 hr. roundtrip travel time)
          o 11:00 AM Blade Test Facility Tour – Approximately 1 hour
          o Lunch available nearby
          o Time to visit USS Constitution or other attractions in the area
     - All guests must have valid government issued photo ID with them on the tour 
     - Registration required in order to provide required attendee names list to WTTC in advance
